RACINE, Wis (WRJN) – The Pride Flag is flying over Racine City Hall, and it will be there almost every day this month.

The Racine City Council is again recognizing Pride Month through the event, and in their resolution, affirming the city’s policy against discrimination based on gender identity, sexual orientation, and other factors.

According to the resolution, the flag will be displayed every day except June 17, where the Thin Blue Line flag will be raised to honor the anniversary of fallen Police Officer John Hetland, who was killed in 2019 while off duty attempting to stop an armed robbery

The council also declared June 29 as Racine Pride Day and announced a city-sponsored celebration in partnership with the LGBTQ+ community, to be held at City Hall from noon to 2 p.m. on that date.
