MADISON, Wis (CIVIC MEDIA) – Wisconsin education leaders will gather this summer to review and update performance metrics used in school report cards.

A panel of over two dozen academic leaders from public, private, and charter schools will review current measurements to ensure they remain valid and fair, recommending changes in the process. Following the conclusion of the summit, the group will submit their proposals to State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly with the goal of implementing the changes by the fall.

Dr. Underly emphasized the importance of updating the metrics and taking new data into consideration.

“Just as you wouldn’t rely on a decade-old GPS to find your way today, we can’t use outdated performance benchmarks to guide school improvement,” Dr. Underly said. “In Wisconsin, where we maintain a high academic bar aligned to rigorous state standards, it is essential that our accountability systems keep pace with changes to performance measures — based on today’s data, today’s measures, and today’s expectations…not yesterday’s.”

Wisconsin’s educational leaders will first meet virtually in June before meeting in-person in August.

Additional details on school performance metrics can be found here.
