RICHLAND CENTER, Wis (WRCO) – Now that the spring is here, garage sale season is underway. When shopping at a garage sale, buyers should be cautious about certain items they intend to purchase. Michelle Reinen is with The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).

When inspecting an item, there are things to look for to make sure it is safe for you and your family.

While inspecting any merchandise is a great way to check its safety, Michelle Reinen says there is another way to check safety.

If you have questions about the safety of an item, or if you are a victim of a scam, you can contact DATCP’s Consumer Protection Hotline by phone at 1-800-422-7128 or by email at DATCPHotline@wi.gov.
