Milwaukee Judge Dugan Launches Legal Defense Fund Amid Federal Charges, Limits Donors

MILWAUKEE, Wis (Civic Media) – Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan, who has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of helping a man evade immigration officials, is now seeking donations to fund her legal defense.

Dugan announced Friday, May 16, that she has established a defense fund, specifying she will not accept contributions from Milwaukee County residents, local attorneys, lobbyists, judges, county employees, or anyone with pending cases before Milwaukee County judges, and will only take money from U.S. citizens.

Her attorneys, who have filed a motion to dismiss the case, called the prosecution an “unprecedented attack on the independent judiciary by the federal government.” Her next court date is set for July.
