Former Glenwood City School District Superintendent Timothy Johnson has been bound over for trial on 17 felony charges in St. Croix County.

In October, the 52-year-old Johnson was officially charged with 17 felonies. He is accused of taking a total of $290,792 of funds during his time as superintendent. The felony charges include laundering money, uttering a forgery, and misconduct in office by producing fraudulent records.

According to court documents, over $200,000 of the alleged stolen money was allocated for Johnson to take continuing education courses at Viterbo University. The Glenwood City School District hired a forensic audit firm to investigate the theft last summer. The firm’s report found Johnson received $125,000 in educational stipends, which he authorized himself, and over $75,000 in reimbursements for the classes he never took.

Additionally, Johnson was accused of mishandling nearly $350,000 for school district investments with a former district accountant. His arraignment was scheduled for June 5 and trial dates have not yet been selected.

Johnson was originally hired by the district in 2003 as a middle and high school principal. He was promoted to the role of superintendent in 2014.

After leaving the Glenwood City School District in 2023, Johnson was hired as the Human Resources Executive for the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District. He later resigned from that position in January 2024 after the investigation into his past conduct as superintendent in Glenwood City began. Chippewa Falls officials say they conducted an internal audit following his resignation, and found no inappropriate expenditures or misused funds.
