RICHLAND CENTER, Wis (WRCO FM) – This week on Those Were the Days, we will feature a few of our favorite Canadian artists. I realized early on in my record collecting career that some of my best loved artists hailed from Canada. I have purchased lots of vinyl recorded by the Guess Who, Bachman Turner Overdrive, April Wine, Triumph, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Loverboy, Bryan Adams, Five Man Electrical Band, and Rush. When I was a ‘wee Nee’, I would listen each night to distant AM radio signals. At times I could pull in Canadian stations, and I would hear cool songs that were not being played in America. Canadian Content regulations require Canadian radio stations play a certain percentage of Canadian music. There were stations with French speaking announcers that played songs sung in English. While in high school me and my hoodlum friends would tune into SCTV to catch Bob and Doug Mckenzie (Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas) and their fictious tv show about the ‘great white north’. Take off eh, you hoser!

Saturday night my Those Were the Days radio show will shine the profile light on those Canada hits. This idea for a theme came from one of our smart and good-looking listeners! It is a great idea. Of course, we will play all of your requests Saturday night whether they originate from north of the border or not. Listen for the trivia bell, put on your thinking toque and tune in for the fun on WRCO FM 100.9, WRCO.com, and on the Civic Media app. between six and midnight.
