MADISON, Wis. (CIVIC MEDIA) – Spring time brings the threat for severe weather and it’s lining up on a holiday weekend with higher travel expected.

A low pressure system is headed into Wisconsin, dragging showers and some thunderstorms with it. These start Thursday and bring the risk for hail and gusty winds. Moderate rain is expected with totals around 0.50″. Some areas northwest may see heavier rain, nearing 1.0″ or more. It’s needed for a green up to start and planting season to progress.

Things fire up and may become severe on Friday. A cold front will slam into the warmer temperatures and could spark up stronger storms.

The Storm Prediction Center has put southeastern Wisconsin in a Slight Risk (yellow area) which means short-lived, isolated and intense storms are possible. These would pack the hazards of large hail and high winds on Friday.

High temperatures in afternoon Friday have the potential to spike to the low 80s in spots south! Meanwhile, in the Northwoods as showers continue, 40 degree temperatures will be waiting.

As the cooler air swings south through the state in the evening, mainly after 7 PM, beware and stay weather saavy.

Do you have a plan in place of where to take shelter if caught in a tornado warning? Now is the time to prepare. Here’s a twister of knowledge you’ll want this severe weather season.
