GREEN BAY, WI- (WGBW) – North American River Otters are known for being playful and mischievous. Louie and Ophelia, who reside at the NEW Zoo, have proven the fact and are sending zoo officials on a wild otter chase.

Thursday, during the recent storm that dumped snow on the area, Louie and Ophelia escaped their enclosure through a small breach in fencing.

Officials with the NEW Zoo say that the otters are no danger to the public. Zookeepers are pulling out all stops by following up on videos, calls, and tips so they can bring Louie and Ophelia home soon.

The NEW Zoo Facebook page has videos from the Zoo and the community of the naughty otters playing and sliding in the snow.

“Anyone nearby who sees an otter is encouraged to take photos or video and DM them to our Facebook page with the date and time and address of the sighting,” the NEW Zoo said in its Facebook Post. “We will continue to track their movements through the sightings, as well as with tracks on the ground and with a host of motion-activated cameras.”
