MANITOWOC, WI- (WGBW) – Manitowoc Public School District is one of the recipients of a Recovery High School Planning Grant. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction announced the grant winners this week.

The program, created under 2023 Wisconsin Act 72, supports the creation of recovery high schools across the state. These recovery high schools are dedicated environments where students in recovery can thrive academically and personally. The schools are designed to help meet the unique challenges and needs for students overcoming substance use and mental health challenges that often co-exist with substance use.

Manitowoc Public School District will receive a $75,000 grant to assist in planning and developing the school. Other school districts in the state also receiving the grants include the School District of Ashland, School District of Beloit, and the Norris School District.

Eligible applicants for this grant program included public and private schools, as well as nonprofit organizations.
