WAUSAU, Wis. (WXCO) – MetroRide is set to receive new buses and possibly a new building to house cleaner and greener alternatives like electric in the future.

The City of Wausau’s MetroRide is set to receive 10 new transit buses thanks to the State of Wisconsin Transit Capital Assistance Grant Program.

The new buses will be a greener alternative compared to the current ones. While still diesel, they are cleaner burning and have higher gas mileage with more efficient engines.

MetroRide is also thinking of the future and are also accepting proposals for a new building or renovation feasibility study. They want their new garage to be able to accommodate the electrical infrastructure of the buses they might have down the line, including hybrid or electrical buses.
