MILWAUKEE, Wis (WAUK) — An immigrant rights group will host a meeting Saturday for parents of Allen-Field Elementary School students, following a suspension of a teacher.

The meeting, scheduled for 1 p.m. is at the Mitchell Street office for Voces De La Frontera. It comes after a rally Wednesday in support of Alondra Garcia, a second-grade teacher suspended for one day without pay.

Garcia is said to have distributed the district’s safe haven resolution, which prohibits staff from disclosing student information to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The principal, in a statement, cited violations of employee conduct rules, including policies against group texts with parents.

Garcia says she did not violate any policies and only shared resources available on the MPS website. The Milwaukee Teachers Education Association supports Garcia’s actions.

About 45 people gathered outside the school Wednesday, chanting and holding posters in solidarity with Garcia.
