MILWAUKEE, Wis (Civic Media) – There’s a big boat in the Milwaukee harbor looking to start its service. The USS Beloit will be commissioned in Milwaukee, Saturday, Nov. 23 at 10 a.m.

The ceremony will honor Beloit, Wisconsin’s contributions to the U.S. Navy, including engines built at the local Fairbanks Morse plant.

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Marcia M. Anderson will serve as the ship’s sponsor, giving the order to “Man our ship and bring her to life!”

Parking for the event is limited. Attendees can park at nearby garages for $6-$9 per day and take a shuttle or walk to the ceremony site. Options include the Museum Center Garage, Couture Garage and U.S. Bank Garage.

Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis through an online portal.

Those unable to attend can watch the livestream starting at 9:45 a.m.

The Beloit is a Littoral Combat Ship designed for near-shore and open-ocean operations. After commissioning, it will be stationed at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida
