Three Racine Organizations Receive Funding for Violence Prevention Initiatives

RACINE, Wis. (WRJN) — Mentorship and legal assistance are the basis for funds going out from Racine. The City of Racine’s Department of Community Safety has allocated more than $141,300 in grants to three local organizations focused on crime and violence prevention. 

The funding, sourced from the American Rescue Plan Act and the Medical College of Wisconsin Community Safety Fund, will support the Women’s Resource Center of Racine Inc., Focus on Community Inc., and Payne Consulting LLC.

A statement from the city says the organizations will use the money to provide legal support for women escaping abusive relationships and after-school programs aimed at improving students’ academic and social skills.

Racine Mayor Cory Mason praised the initiatives, saying, “These programs steer adults and children away from futures where they could be expelled from school or commit violent acts.” He emphasized the importance of helping individuals find stable paths to success.

John Tate II, director of the Department of Community Safety, noted that the goal is to address the root causes of violence through early intervention.

The Women’s Resource Center will use $41,359 to expand its legal advocacy services, while Payne Consulting will receive $50,000 for its Next Level Mentoring Program. Focus on Community Inc. is set to utilize its $50,000 grant for the Empowering Futures initiative aimed at supporting at-risk students.
