RACINE, Wis. (WRJN) — Two area charitable organizations are looking for help. There are impacts to people that are homeless in Racine, and women and children in Kenosha.

The Homeless Assistance Leadership Organization (HALO) in Racine says they’re urgently seeking community support amid a severe funding shortfall. The organization attributes the financial strain to decreased donations and limited government grants, despite continued backing from local foundations. HALO is appealing for immediate donations of essential items such as twin sheets, toilet paper, and bleach, along with monetary contributions to sustain its operations.

In a statement from the new interim director of the facility, Joan Roehre says investing in HALO is an investment in the community’s strength and well-being. The rise in homelessness across Wisconsin, including Racine County, has exacerbated the demand for services. Rorhre was recently approved by the The HALO Board as the Interim Executive Director after the previous Executive Director, Holly Anderle, offered her resignation to the Board.

In a related development, Kenosha County’s only domestic violence shelter, Women & Children’s Horizons, has temporarily closed due to staffing issues. While their help line remains operational, the organization is reaching out for community assistance and making referrals to alternative shelters.
