PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (Civic Media) — A 19-year-old nursing student is in critical condition following a near-drowning incident at Lake Andrea on Friday afternoon.

A GoFundMe is identifying that victim as Jackson Henderson, a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student. He was swimming at the lake in Pleasant Prairie when he experienced what his family described as a “freak drowning accident” around 4:41 p.m.

Bystanders and a friend pulled Henderson from the water and performed CPR. He was estimated to have been without oxygen for 10 to 20 minutes.

Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue arrived at 4:44 p.m. and started to work. Paramedics were able to establish a pulse before taking Henderson to St. Catherine’s Hospital.

Henderson, who works as a Certified Nursing Assistant while studying nursing, is currently receiving intensive care in the ICU.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help cover Henderson’s medical expenses. The fundraiser, organized by Frank Chianello, emphasizes Henderson’s financial independence and the need for support during this challenging time.

“We are in need of money from GoFundMe to help cover the medical bills and to help alleviate stress from the family who is already going through so much,” the campaign states.
