RACINE, Wis. (WRJN) — The Racine Public Library has appointed Nick Demske as its permanent executive director, effective July 17, 2024. Demske, who has been with the library for 17 years, most recently served as interim executive director since July 2023.
Demske’s time with the library began in 2007 when he was hired for a circulation position. Over the years, he progressed through various roles, including youth services librarian, community resource librarian, and deputy director. In late 2021, he became the library’s first deputy director.
Brian O’Connell, president of the library board, expressed confidence in Demske’s leadership, stating, “We look forward to working with Nick as the library turns the page to this new chapter.”
Demske, who describes himself as a “living success story of libraries,” says he wants to bring a strong focus on equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism to his new role.
The new director served as the County Supervisor for Racine County’s First District from 2018 to 2024.
