OSHKOSH, WI – (WISS & WGBW) – Oshkosh is playing host to the largest outdoor grass volleyball tournament in the United States, some say the world, this week. The Waupaca Boatride, also known as the US Open Grass Volleyball Tournament runs through Sunday at Brighton Acres in Oshkosh.
Amy Albright, director of Discover Oshkosh, says the event started in 1984 but people may get confused by its name.
“People get confused, because ‘why is it in Oshkosh, if it’s called the Waupaca Boatride?’ It started in Waupaca. They outgrew Waupaca. They’ve been in Oshkosh for years,” said Albright. “People come from all over the country; from Hawaii, from Texas, from all over, to compete.”
The tournament features men’s, women’s, and co-ed divisions with several clinics for adults and juniors and adaptive clinics.
Spectators are welcome to watch the almost 3000 teams playing on both sand and grass courts at Brighton Acres, Revs Bowl Bar and Grill, and The Bar in Oshkosh.
There is no entry fee for spectators, parking fees are cash only, and not pets will be allowed.
