PARK FALLS, Wis (WCQM/WPFP) – Much of the state was swept the other week by devastating storms and our slice of the Northwoods was no exception. There were many reports of downed trees and power outages along with flooding in the area. One local business even found their roof relocated. Burgers Bar and Grill in Phillips is temporarily closed while they work on repairing their roof after the storm heavily damaged it, causing the ceiling in their kitchen to collapse and water to rain into the bar. We spoke with Ricardo, one of the owners of Burgers, to hear what happened and to discuss their reopening schedule. Ricardo stated “…and then I went into the kitchen, and I looked out my window, and from there I could see the roof of the restaurant. I could actually see it peeling off.”
He immediately woke up his partner, believing there was a tornado. Upon checking the restaurant, the kitchen was found with its ceiling collapsed and rain falling into it. In the bar area, Ricardo stated “It was like a waterfall of rain coming down.” He went on to say that fortunately the main roof did not fly off. There is a planned reopening with a limited menu within the next couple of weeks. A full reopening is planned for a few months into the future. Burgers appreciates the assistance the local community has offered stating “…that made us feel good…”
