RCHS students top in state.
Three Richland Center High School students won the 16th Annual statewide Whipping Up Wellness competition. Will Behling, Shanice Anderson, and Keegan Guinn competed in the finalist cook-off competition at Madison Area Technical College Thursday. Whipping Up Wellness is a competition sponsored by the Department of Public Instruction in which teams of middle and high school students develop a nutritious, student-friendly recipe that can be incorporated easily into the school food service program. Student recipes had to meet federal nutrition guidelines and be easily mass-produced.
The RCHS team’s original recipe was a Taco Calzone served with Melon Salsa, which will be shared with food service directors of districts across the state. The students practiced cooking the meal for the RCHS students the week prior, serving the calzone and salsa for lunch. Many RCHS staff members supported the student group in their endeavor.
