KENOSHA, Wis. (WRJN) — Volunteers are needed for an upcoming beach cleanup event organized by the Kenosha Yacht Club Foundation in partnership with the Alliance for the Great Lakes’ Adopt-a-Beach program.
The local cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Simmons Island Beach in Kenosha.
Volunteers will meet at the northwest corner of the Simmons Island Park bathhouse at 5001 Simmons Island Road. Garbage bags and other supplies will be provided starting at 9 a.m.
The Adopt-a-Beach program coordinates volunteer cleanup efforts across all the Great Lakes. Data collected shows that approximately 85% of the litter removed from shorelines is plastic. After the cleanups, volunteer team leaders enter data into a database to help track coastal litter across the region.
