The award-winning Milwaukee-based rock band, Blame it on Cain, unplugs for a Max Ink Radio live, in-studio concert

Blame it on Cain is a rock band but decided to unplug and play acoustic for a recent showcase on Max Ink Radio. And listeners were not disappointed.

You can hear the entire interview and in-studio concert at this link, including why the group was disqualified from a Battle of the Bands competition, how many bass players have worked their way through the band, and the meaning behind some of their original songs.

Even without the distortion pedals and electric guitars, the group still put its usual swagger behind songs like “Freedom,” “Give me Money,” and “For Them.”

The band has released five albums of original music since 2008. Vocalist Sam Boettcher believes the band is special, but claims it all started in the typical way.

“We formed as any band did then, on the internet,” Boettcher says. “Hey, I need a drummer or we need a bassist. We’ve been together for a solid amount of time, and it’s been awesome.”

So, we asked, “Has your style changed after all these years together?”

“The only difference is we’re experimenting with things a little more than in the past,” Boettcher says. “We actually did an acoustic album in 2022. And we wrote a blues song. We’re just trying to experiment and even test ourselves a little bit, too.”

Blame it on Cain is based in the Milwaukee area, and the band feels the scene there is only getting better.

“It’s really cool with a lot of people supporting each other these days,” Boettcher says. “And Milwaukee isn’t necessarily known for its original music. But the community is growing, and there are more groups booking shows together on a regular basis. It’s all helping bring more people out in support.”
