Door County gets failing grade for air quality

GREEN BAY, WI – (WGBW & WISS) – The American Lung Association released its “State of the Air” report card. Surprisingly, Door County received a failing grade for its air quality.

The national report tracks ozone levels, particle pollution, and populations at risk throughout the country. In Wisconsin, 26 of the 72 counties could be graded for at least one measure of air quality. 

According to the report card, Door County had 12 orange days a year giving it an “F.” Manitowoc County also received a failing grade for 10 orange days and two red days. Sheboygan County received a failing grade for 15 orange days and 3 red days in the year.

Orange days are described by the organization as “unhealthy for sensitive groups.” Red days are “unhealthy.” Purple is used for “very unhealthy,” and maroon is for “hazardous.”

The American Lung Association gave Brown, Fond du Lac, and Outagamie Counties a grade of “C.” Kewaunee County received a grade of “D” for 5 orange and 1 red day.

Additionally, Brown and Outagamie Counties received a “C” grade from the organization for the amount of particle pollution in the air.
