OSHKOSH, WI – (WISS) – Oshkosh residents love the variety of activities available in the downtown area and the natural resources we are lucky to have. Recently residents, business owners, and community members were asked what they would change to make a positive impact on the community.

Doug Oram of Oshkosh said more is needed to recruit and keep professionals in the area.

“I have a lot of engineers and PhDs that are from big cities, and they’re here now. Keeping them here – retaining professionals here in the area is the key,” said Oram. “So, the housing that they desire, improved streets, and so forth that they are working on now. That’s a big thing for me.”

Other residents, like Brook Deroo, said more activities for children would be a positive addition to the city.

“I’m thinking it would be more hands-on things for kids to do. I think it would be nice to get the kids out, and enjoy different activities. You know, something to get them more involved in,” Deroo said.

Others see a need for preserving the things that have made Oshkosh unique for many years.

“I love the fact that we are also blessed with wonderful history and architecture,” said Jen Marty of Oshkosh. “I would love for there to be the most money possible to go toward restoration and preservation of old buildings especially in the center of the city.”

Comments were made during an informal survey of attendees at the Oshkosh Business Expo last week.
