BROWN COUNTY, WI – (WGBW)  Brown County’s Crime Prevention Funding Board (CPFB) is looking for applicants for available grant funding to help support existing crime prevention programs and to implement new programs aimed at preventing crime.

“There are significant monies available to many different types of groups to help prevent crime in our communities,” says CPFB board member and Brown County Judge Tammy Jo Hock. “We’ve approved grants in the past for school groups, neighborhood associations, and various law enforcement agencies. We encourage a wide array of organizations to apply for these grants to fund unique programs and initiatives with the goal of keeping our residents safe.”

In 2023, there were a total of nine grants issued to fund initiatives throughout Brown County, including a $12,000 grant for the Green Bay Police Department’s Community Policing Division to purchase two fully equipped electronic bikes (e-bikes) to be used during neighborhood outreach initiatives.

“Using e-bikes as a part of our patrols breaks down barriers and fosters open communication during neighborhood outreach initiatives, Green Bay Packers football games, or other large-scale events,” says Jennifer Gonzalez, Green Bay Police Department’s Communications Coordinator. “By increasing the number of e-bikes, we now have additional opportunities to be present in our neighborhoods and engage with our citizens in a face-to-face, personable manner. During these voluntary contacts, we can build relationships and have conversations. Our flexibility to engage with residents by riding e-bikes furthers our potential for positive impact.”

Qualified programs or projects must focus on reducing or eliminating either the desire to commit a crime, the ability to commit a crime, or the opportunity to commit a crime. The applicants must be non-profit organizations, government agencies, or school districts within Brown County. Grant money cannot be used to supplement funds from an organization’s operating budget.

There is no grant limit. Grants usually range from $500 to $3000. They are awarded in April and October each year.
