Planned Parenthood President and Police Chief to Attend State of the Union with Wisconsin Politicians
Milwaukee, Wis (Civic Media) – The Waukesha Police Chief and the President of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin are set to attend the State of the Union address in Washington D.C. tomorrow. They will be as guests of Wisconsin politicians.
Senator Tammy Baldwin will be accompanied by Waukesha Chief of Police Daniel Thompson. Together, they co-authored an op-ed in the Journal Sentinel addressing the drug overdose crisis, particularly focusing on the impact of synthetic opioids like fentanyl. They wrote about the urgent need for increased awareness, prevention measures, and a unified strategy to combat this public health emergency. They advocate for comprehensive actions such as targeting suppliers, bolstering border security, investing in prevention and treatment resources, and expanding access to overdose-reversal drugs like naloxone. Chief Thompson expressed his gratitude for representing Wisconsin law enforcement at the event and eagerly anticipates joining Senator Baldwin.

Congresswoman Gwen Moore has selected Tanya Atkinson, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, as her guest. A statement says Atkinson’s leadership in championing healthcare access and reproductive rights in Wisconsin has been pivotal in ensuring individuals receive necessary healthcare services. Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin recently resumed abortion services and is actively challenging the state’s 1849 abortion ban in legal proceedings.

The State of the Union address will be broadcast on many stations within the Civic Media network starting at 8pm, with coverage including the Republican response.
