Green Bay school board names interim superintendent
Vicki Bayer fills role for second time.
GREEN BAY, WI – (WGBW/WISS) – Green Bay Area Public School District appoints Vicki Bayer as interim superintendent following a closed session that lasted just over two hours on Monday. The vote to appoint Bayer was unanimous.
Bayer will fill the role while the school board searches for a new superintendent. Former superintendent, Claude Tiller, Jr. resigned after he was put on administrative leave for comments made on an Atlanta area radio show and Facebook live broadcast.
This is the second time in two years that Bayer will serve as interim superintendent. She also filled the position after Stephen Murley retired for health reasons in 2022.
Meanwhile, the district will officially post a job opening for the Board of Trustees spot left vacant when Laura Laitinen-Warren resigned last month. Laitinen-Warrent resigned with a year remaining on her term. The school board will accept applications for the position until March 19th. They have 60 days to fill it.
Persons interested in filling the position must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of the Green Bay Area School District, and have no felony convictions. Whoever is appointed to the vacant position will serve the remainder of Laitinen-Warren’s term which ends in Spring of 2025.
