Racine, Wis (WRJN) – A plea deal has been reached for Crishawn Clemons, a 29-year-old man charged in connection with a homicide that claimed the life of 14-year-old Eugene Henderson in Racine two years ago. Clemons pleaded guilty to second-degree intentional homicide and possession of a firearm as a felon. During a plea hearing held today, prosecutors recommended a minimum of 20 years in prison for Clemons. The charges against Clemons stem from the shooting incident where he fired shots into a stolen car carrying Henderson as a passenger. Clemons is set to be sentenced in May.

The case revolves around the fatal shooting of Eugene Henderson, who was struck in the head and succumbed to his injuries after Clemons allegedly fired shots into the car he was riding in. Initially, two teenagers were charged in June 2022, but the charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence to proceed with the case.

According to the criminal complaint, officers discovered Henderson in a Chrysler 300 on Racine Street with a gunshot wound to the head. An eyewitness reported that an SUV pulled up beside the Chrysler, and shots were fired into the vehicle’s windows. The SUV was identified as a blue Ford Edge.

During investigations, an individual initially misled authorities about the shooter’s identity but later admitted that Clemons was driving the Ford Edge and fired shots into the car out of fear. Three other passengers identified Clemons as the shooter during photo identification.

In related incidents, shortly after Henderson’s death, another teenager was shot in what police believed was retaliation for Henderson’s killing. Xavier Jackson and Jamauel Ford were charged in this shooting, mistakenly targeting the teenager who had no involvement in Henderson’s death or gang activities.

Sentencing for Clemons is sheduled for May 20th.
