In the second segment, we listen in on our Civic Media reporters talk about the No Kings Protest that happened last weekend. We listen in on Reverend Everett Mitchell on in Madison talk about what needs to be done for the future of America.

Following up on that, Pat from Mornings with Pat Krietlow talks deeply about the families of people with developmental disabilities and how they are especially worried about their future now that Republicans have shut down access to key government services and are making health insurance less affordable. Knowing that around 80% of women with some form of intellectual disability have been sexually assaulted, access to contraception and other affordable care is especially important. Pat talks to one mother about the real-life impact of the GOP’s political games on her daughter. In the last segment of the Civic Media Spotlight, we shift our focus to Jane and Greg from Matenaer on Air. A man in Muskego used sidewalk chalk to post a message outside his local post office regarding his thoughts on Democracy and what followed was an investigation, an arrest a court date and another arrest. This story has flown under the radar and we feel more people need to hear about it, as this is a fight for freedom of speech and when a person can be detained for expressing their mind using chalk, this is a problem for his community, this state and the country.

He stresses the constitutional risks of eroding civilian control of the military and Trump’s disregard for established legal norms.

Max Ink makes an appearance on Spotlight! This features a piece of the interview and live music from The Mascot Theory, just before releasing a new, emotional, personal album. The two songs here were played live for the first time in the studio! The last segment for the Civic Media Spotlight is the John & Gordy show! She warns that efforts to amend or undermine a free press squander one of democracy’s core protections. Dr. Bartzen Culver emphasizes that democracy cannot function without a free, independent, and objective press.

On Mornings with Pat Krietlow, a new made-up vaccine review panel created by Health Secretary Robert Kennedy, Jr., parents need a way to look beyond the quackery in Washington, DC to get science-based answers to their vaccine questions. This gives the go-ahead to many executive orders that Trump has already used erratically. John and Gordy believe that what the Supreme Court is doing is unconstitutional and flat out wrong.

We then move onto the second part of Mornings with pat Kreitlow. Melissa Kaye officially has a pet pigeon! LeLou has landed in the Kaye household in this edition of Pigeon Quest. Melissa shared funny facts about LeLou and pigeons in general! Parker didn't know pigeons grunt, and got scared when LeLou let out one. Pat says we're going to learn so much from having LeLou, thus Pigeon Quest will continue even with a pigeon already acquired.

Jane and Greg, from Matenaer on Air, brings a guest named Megan Kling, who is a wife and a mom of two girls, and she is also a woman who fell victim to Wisconsin's 19th century law on abortion. She told her story about what her family had to go through to get the healthcare she needed and deserved. We talk about the preconceived notions about abortion access with regard to who needs it and what stepping forward has done in the way of support and criticism. We move onto the John and Gordy Show where they meet with Brian Belefant, author of the hit novel "The Sultan of Garbage". Brian describes the importance of keeping our parks clean especially for the 4th of July! He went into depth about his findings he put into his novel and the reasoning behind writing a book about the Island of Garbage!

On Matenaer on Air, Jane and Greg are joined by Alex Bruzan, who is a volunteer for We Got This, a non-profit located in Milwaukee. Their mission is to get kids familiar with gardening and stress the importance of this mundane task. They talk about the history of the organization and how kids go about getting employed for the morning. They are paid for their efforts and it's not just about gardening; they learn about the processes from seed to harvest and get lessons in financial literacy and management (for those who stay over the years). There's some really great stuff here about how people of WI (particularly GB) want to take care of each other.

Then on Maino & the Mayor, Alicia Wenger joins the show from Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services in Oshkosh. She shares the story of the organization's namesake and talks about all of the services that they offer individuals and families. Christine Ann touches the whole community from in-school programs to community education sessions.

Following that, Corinne Hendrickson is a child care professional and returns to Matenaer On Air to talk about the National Day of Action event happening on May 12 and the dire need for child care funding increases, which seems to be on the chopping block by the Wisconsin GOP. Peace believes service is about much more than constructing beds for kids in need. Their mission is "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town." (Kon will likely go in the 10th round of the NBA draft!)

Then, on Wednesday's Matenaer On Air show, the election is over, the ballots are (mostly) counted and Wisconsin is breathing a sigh of relief as the results show that we, the people are not for sale. Jane, Greg and Calvin give an overview of the election results and discuss what this means for Wisconsin and the country, going forward. They take calls from the listeners and read texts, as well who very happy to share their thoughts with the gang about Tuesday night.

After that on Matenaer On Air, Jane, Greg and Calvin are joined by host of Amicus: A Law Review, Jim Santelle for the start of a weekly segment where we will take a deep dive into the news coming out of the courts around the country, and possibly the world. This week we're talking about the decision from SCOTUS on whether or not President Trump can withhold payments from foreign aid groups and how one ally voted against the president. Then, on UpNorthNews Radio, Pat Kreitlow welcomes Joan Esposito of WCPT Radio in Chicago, along with former Chicago Tribune editor Mark Jacob and former US Attorney Jim Santelle, as they do a theater review—political theater, that is, and hand out awards for actors, supporting actors, comedies and dramas from politicians whose performances help their careers while hurting a big chunk of the country.

After that on the Todd Allbaugh Show, the newly-elected State Sen. Sarah Keyeski joins us to talk about her background in rural Wisconsin and the new Right To Repair bill that she co-authored. She believes that our farmers should be allowed to repair their own equipment. Common sense, right?

Next, sometimes, when a guest doesn't show up, you get a great conversation with the listeners on Matenaer On Air. In lieu of a Social Security advocate coming on the show to talk about the importance of protecting the nations most important "entitlements", we turned the mic to the audience and for three straight segments, we took call after call and listened to folks on or affected by social security, we read their texts and livestream comments. All of them express how vital that check is to their lives, and survival as well as what will happen if the current administration takes a machete to the money they've paid into, for so many years.

Sequanna Taylor, about the small victory, the ongoing fights to take real action on areas where communities of color still face broad disparities, and how the next state budget can help or hurt their cause.

On April 1st, Wisconsin will vote to elect a new state supreme court justice. Every day, we discover new reasons why conservative candidate Brad Schimel is completely unfit to serve our state. At a Republican community event last year, Schimel was caught on a mic calling for another “bloody revolution” to get American freedom back from “the socialists.”

Then, on UpNorthNews Radio this week, Pat discussed how some Wisconsin legislators are considering a new way to hide from taxpayers the true cost of the programs that give out taxpayer dollars for vouchers to private, often religious schools. He spoke to Chris Thiel, legislative policy specialist for Milwaukee Public Schools, about this new shell game that would force every Wisconsin taxpayer to fund two parallel school systems in the state.

Then, on Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba, Pete is joined by comedian and actor from Major League, Skip Griparis. Skip talks about his act featuring rock music. He also shares his experience on Major League with Bob Uecker, and talks touring with Olivia Newton John.

Then, on the Maggie Daun Show, Maggie honors a former Milwaukee Brewer who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this week. Maggie brings some listeners to tears as she gives props to CC Sabathia and the incredible moment of shared joy and connection that he gave the state of Wisconsin on Sept 9, 2008.

Finally, on the John & Gordy Show, the guys are joined by Pat McBride, author of The Luckiest Boy In The World, to talk about working for the Brewers, Bucks, and Packers all at the same time, as a teenager. It was a busy news week around the state and country this week, here are a number of topics that Civic Media hosts shared how the news affected our communities around across Wisconsin this week.

Up first this hour, Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul joins the Dom Salvia Show and cohost for the day Earl Ingram to discuss how and why Wisconsin joined a lawsuit against Donald Trump. In the first hours of his second Presidential term, Trump issued an Executive Order that would strip some born in the United States of citizenship. Of course, that directly violates Section 1 of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution granting citizenship to all those born or naturalized in the US. Hence the lawsuit. In Kaul's words- a disastrous way to start his second term.

Then, on Matenaer On Air, Jane and Greg cover the pardons that were issued for everyone who took part in the January 6 insurrection, including those who were charged with violent offenses, on Donald Trumps first day back in the Oval Office. That is even after the administration said it would go over the cases thoroughly and wouldn't seek to pardon those convicted of violent crimes, the show discusses the people from Wisconsin who participated in the event.

Up next on this weekend's Spotlight, State Assembly Rep. Francesca Hong (D-Madison) talks to UpNorthNews Radio's Pat Kreitlow about the many issues to be debated during the new session of the Wisconsin Legislature—with a main emphasis on her “Healthy School Meals For All” proposal.

Finally, on the Todd Allbaugh Show, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported this week that CBS 58 in Milwaukee fired weather reporter Sam Kuffel for criticizing Elon Musk on her personal social media. While there may have been a legitimate reason to lay her off, the subsequent silence from CBS 58 speaks volumes. The Todd Allbaugh Show discusses this dangerous precedent set very early on in Donald Trump’s presidency. If media companies fire people in their weather departments for criticizing somebody who isn’t even an elected official, trust in news departments will likely deteriorate even further.

After that, on UpNorthNews Radio Pat is joined by Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Susan Crawford, currently serving as a Dane County judge, who is running against Scott Walker’s former attorney general Brad Schimel for a pivotal role on the state’s high court in the April 1 election. Crawford tells the show about her experience and takes issue with Schimel’s recent comment in support of the January 6 insurrectionists who launched a violent attack on the US Capitol.

We close out the weekend with a segment from WGBW and WISS's morning program, Maino and the Mayor. The guys talk about this day in 1967 when the famed Ice Bowl took place in Green Bay. They made up lies about the alleged perpetrator before anybody really had any information, stating that he was an illegal immigrant and this is all Joe Biden's fault. In reality, he was a citizen of Texas and an Afghanistan veteran. Todd emphasizes the importance of truth, and how Fox News has continually failed to reach that goal.

Wrapping up the first hour, on The Maggie Daun Show guest hosted by Dan Shafer, Dan is joined by BLOC’s Angela Lang and Law Forward’s Jeff Mandell to discuss the complexities of ACT 10 and its repeal. Enacted in Wisconsin in 2011, ACT 10 severely limited public sector unions' collective bargaining rights, sparking protests and debates over workers' rights.

Then, on the Dom Salvia Show, Dom and cohost of the day Earl Ingram address the looming government shutdown and who is casting its shadow: Elon Musk. No one elected Musk, but people DID elect their legislators, who are now being overtly threatened by Trump and Musk.

On the John & Gordy Show, the guys are joined by Mike McCabe to talk about his latest digital piece on the parallels between 1930’s Bank Robbers and Luigi Mangione as folk heroes in the American psyche.

Last but not least, Todd Allbaugh Show has been following the closure of two-year UW campuses since the canary first stopped singing, and the saga is unfortunately far from over. A new article from WORT details that the Board of Regents spent a staggering $51 million on consultants over the last four years- over THREE TIMES the budget deficit in that same period that led to catastrophic layoffs at UW Oshkosh. Scott Walker’s signature law that gutted public employee unions in the state in 2011, but Martin said if the final outcome is the reinstatement of collective bargaining rights, then unions will be able to negotiate working conditions that will help retain teachers and address worsening shortages, especially in rural districts.
